Amazon getting into used video games

Apparently 9/10ths of every dollar made by instant gratification-obsessed 20+ somethings isn’t enough – they want it all. Amazon.com is now getting into the used video games business. Good God, are they gonna start selling cars next? (disclosure: nearly every link here has affiliate code, but you know my adoration for and trust in Amazon).

Our video game trade-in process is easy. Go to www.amazon.com/tradeingames and discover games that you want to trade among hundreds of titles. Once you’ve found your game, print off a prepaid shipping label (no cost to you), drop it in the mail, and you’re done. Once games are received and verified, an Amazon.com Gift Card will be deposited into your Amazon.com account. You can spend that Amazon.com Gift Card towards the purchase of millions of eligible items at Amazon.com.

As a bonus for trying Amazon’s new trade-in program, for the first two weeks of the beta, we’re offering 10% off a future purchase of any game or accessory in Amazon’s video games store.

I like how the money you get back is in Amazon gift certificates, so that the money they pay into this just ends up recycled, and you can’t use it for basic necessities for things like groceries and toilet paper.

Forget cars, that’s thinking too small, I’m guessing Soilent Green is next growth area that Amazon’s headed for.
